Gary was a Jehovah's Witness for just over forty years, finally leaving the religion in early 2016. He served at JW Brooklyn Headquarters in the 1980s, and also served as a congregation elder during the 1980s and 1990s. He is a prolific songwriter, musician, and indie recording artist. Gary has also written two books, Force of Will and Song of Gil, as well as short stories, based on his JW-related experiences. He currently resides in the Poconos of Pennsylvania, USA.

On the way home, I thought about how crushing this whole chapter had been. The organization that claims to have ʻthe truth,’ and what I had always believed was ʻthe truth,’ was perfectly ready to kick me out without ever considering the simple truth. Not a finger was ever lifted to investigate one iota of fact that I continually asserted was readily available to them. And less than a handful of my Jehovah's Witness friends were rational and willing enough to consider even one shred of evidence about anything that had occurred since July 4th 2012 and up until the present. All the others swallowed a mammoth lie, hook, line and sinker, without even considering another possibility. Even though I still felt that doctrinally, Jehovah's Witnesses are on the money, I also questioned why I would ever miss associating with people that were so fond of bald faced lies and injustice...
